The District Council annually provides an amount of funding to be made available to the community through the Community Initiatives Fund. Download Application Forms Here >>>
Eligibility
Assistance from the Community Initiatives Fund is available for:
1. Activities that contribute to the social, economic, cultural and environmental well-being of the Districts citizens.
2. Non-profit making, voluntary, community groups that are registered, that is a charitable trust or an incorporated society. Private individuals whose project is eligible, fits the criteria and who have an Umbrella Group Agreement with an organisation that is a legal entity, can apply.
Note:
- Activities that qualify for and are funded from the Creative Communities Arts Funding Scheme will generally not be eligible for the Community Initiatives Fund.
- In any one financial year organisations that have been funded by Council from the other funding sources will not be eligible for Community Initiatives Funding, with the exception of rates relief.
- Grants will not be made to companies, statutory bodies or private individuals (except as in Point 2) and retrospective applications will not be considered.
Funds are available for:
- Public education
- Community events
Note: Administration and operational costs must be itemised. Funding is not available for paid staff conference attendance, wages, vehicle purchase or capital items.
Funds Available
The total amount of Council funds annually allocated to the scheme is $15,000; only in exceptional circumstances will an allocation of more than $5,000 be given to any one organisation.
- Only ONE application from an organisation will be considered in any one financial year (the Funding Subcommittee will consider if applications are for different events)
- Only organisations that have supplied all the information requested on the application form will be considered for assistance.
- Only organisations that have been able to account for any prior funds received from Council will be eligible to apply.
The Priorities
The Grant Application Committee will take into account the following:
- The proven financial need of the organisation.
- Rationale for the project (whether the activity is not offered by other organisations).
- Applications that are fair and equitable across the needs of both rural and urban communities.
- The contribution toward achieving annual objectives of the Council and the LTCCP.
Successful Applications
To date, funding has been granted to the Kaikoura Success Awards, and the 48May Concert.
