Psychiatric Consumers Trust

You don't have to face it alone.  Advocates can act in support, or speak on your behalf, when you need assistance dealing with medical professionals, WINZ, ACC, Child Youth and Family, landlords, etc.

Sue Page Cancer Society Community Liaison

Available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, based in Cheviot, we are a community based voluntary organisation working throughout Canterbury and West Coast to minimise the impact of cancer on our community.

Community liaison is provided by health professionals who are available to discuss your particular needs.

Whakatata House
Referral from GP, RTLB, Public Health Nurse, Special Education Service, CYFS.  Provides specialist assessment and treatment for children up to and including Year 8, with moderate to severe mental health or severe emotional/behavioural problems.

Family Mental Health Service

This service visits Kaikoura, referrals via GP/School/Social Services.  Free outreach counselling service and Maori Liaison Worker (non crisis)

Needs Coordination Centre

Referral by case managers of MH services. Free service of needs assessment & service coordination for individuals and their caregivers; Eligible - any person aged 6 or over who has psych disability and/or drug & alcohol related disability and needs support to function independently.

Psychiatric service for assessment and treatment of mental illness in rural setting.  Service visits Kaikoura.  Criteria = moderate to severe mental health problems, age 18-65

Psychiatric Emergency Service

24 hours emergency access to the Mental Health division available.  A team provides care for urgent and emergency situations.  Duly Authorised Officers available 24 hours for psychiatric assessments (Christchurch based)
