Kaikoura District Library

In the heart of the West End, opposite the Visitor Information Centre, the Kaikoura District Library welcomes residents and tourists in a quiet, relaxed atmosphere and maintains an up to date and extensive range of fiction and non-fiction for all ages. If we don't have the book you want, we will order it for you.

Operating Hours:

Monday to Friday: 9.30am to 5.30pm
Saturday: 10.00am to 1.00pm
Open until 7.00pm Friday during summer months
Closed on all public holidays.

Membership Costs:

Membership at the library is free if you live in Kaikoura.

Visitors to Kaikoura are welcome to become members of the library on payment of a $40 annual subscription.  Subscription borrowers of this nature are then given full library borrowing privileges. Normal rental charges & fines apply.  Borrowers are restricted to 5 items.

Visitors are defined as people residing in the district for 12 months or less.

Programmes

 

Toddler Time

Every Monday during the school term, the library provides a story time and activity session for preschool children, from 10.30am to 11.30am.

Summer Reading

School children are actively encouraged to continue reading over the summer holidays by joining the summer reading programme. At the end of the programme each participant receives a certificate, medallion and book prize for their achievements.

Housebound Service

If you are unable to visit the Library due to illness or disability, library staff will select books, magazines or talking books and deliver them to your home free of charge within Kaikoura.

Literacy Assistance

Library staff can provide confidential assistance and advice for people with literacy difficulties.
