Remember if you are building/excavating to check if your site contains or is in an archaeological area or suspected ‘hot spot’. The Council planning staff can help you with this. Click here for information on archaeology in the district and what you need to consider. Better to consider early in the part than later when the damage may be done.
Our Building department encourages the design and construction of sustainable buildings to increase energy efficiency, reduce waste and increase efficient use of potable water.
Some great information is available from Ecobob website - Ecobob’s primary focus is natural building, with the website including a detailed (and growing) eco house listing.
Ecobob is Christchurch based web site ‘designed to make eco living easy’ the website provides a simple way to access a wealth of information on eco living methods, such as the use of sustainable energy sources, waste systems and water usage.
