Science
Level 2:
- investigate and describe everyday changes to common substances
- use simple technology to demonstrate and explain methods which prevent or promote change in materials
Level 3:
- investigate and report on temporary and more permanent changes that familiar materials undergo,
- research the use and purpose of technology in the disposal, or recycling, of some common materials, e.g., waste oil, paper, plastics, glass.
SLO: Students will:
- investigate and describe the changes that objects undergo in the decomposing process.
- identify the changes an object goes through in the recycling process and the technology used.
Social Studies
Level 2:
- demonstrate knowledge and understandings of how people participate in the production process.
Level 3:
- demonstrate knowledge and understandings of how and why different systems of exchange operate.
SLO: Students will:
- identify the processes involved in the manufacture, use, distribution, collection, recycling and consequent stages in the life of an item.

- write instructions and explanations, state facts and opinions, and recount events in a range of authentic contexts.
- use verbal and visual features to communicate ideas or stories using layout, drama, video, or still photography
Level 3:
- write instructions, explanations, and factual accounts, and express personal viewpoints, in a range of authentic contexts, sequencing ideas logically
- use verbal and visual features to communicate information, ideas, or narrative through layout, drama, video, or still photography
SLO: Students will:
- write a persuasive letter to a local business, clearly expressing their viewpoint.
create an advertisement for a newspaper or the radio.
Technology
Within a range of technological areas and contexts, students should:
Level 2:
- explore and discuss the use and operation of technologies in everyday use.
Level 3:
- investigate and describe the use and operation of technologies in an everyday setting
SLO: Students will:
- identify and describe the processes involved in the manufacture, use, distribution, collection, recycling and consequent stages in the life of an item.
