Rural Fire Control

The Kaikoura District Council is responsible for administering the Rural Fires Act, and its role is to respond to rural fires, to monitor the fire risk and determine when it is appropriate to restrict the lighting of fires, and to issue fire permits in an environmentally sustainable manner.

Request for Registration of Interest for and Independant Director for the Marlborough-Kaikoura Rural Fire Authority

On 1 July 2012, the Councils of Marlborough and Kaikoura Districts, and the Department of Conservation are amalgamating the governance and administration of forest and rural fire in the region under a single Rural Fire District. The new Rural Fire District will be governed by a Board of Directors, representative of the forest and rural fire stakeholders of the Districts. The Transition Board, established to oversee the amalgamation, will become the Marlborough-Kaikoura Rural Fire Authority on that same date.

The Transition Board is seeking an Independent Director, to be appointed to the Board for a 5 year term, starting as soon as possible.
