Refuse & Recycling

Kaikoura is seen as a leader in the road to Zero Waste, and is recognised both nationally and internationally for our commitment to environmental sustainability and recycling innovation.

At the heart of this commitment is Innovative Waste Kaikoura Ltd, the company responsible for the management of the Kaikoura Resource Recovery Centre.

Click here for a background on our decision to become a Zero Waste District.

You can help us on the road to zero waste by simply doing the following (click on each one for helpful advice):

  • Reduce
  • Reuse
  • Recycle

Kaikoura is now able to provide a Waste Exchange service, click here >>> for more information.

We are also proud to be part of the LoveNZ Recycling in Public Places initiative, click here for our flyer.

Recycling Kerbside Collection

Innovative Waste provides a free recycled goods kerbside collection from households in Kaikoura District, on the following days:

  • Kaikoura township and South Bay - every Thursday
  • Clarence and Kekerengu - Wednesday mornings
  • Oaro and Peketa - Wednesday afternoons

If the collection day is a public holiday, it will be collected the next day.

Also there is a businesses collection on Mondays and Fridays, which costs $11.25 per week.  If you want your recyclables collected from your business, give IWK a call.
