District Planning
Kaikoura has long recognised the importance of its environment to both its resident community and the continued investment from the commercial sector due to its appeal to tourism. It is the aim of Council to enable growth to continue, without compromising on the natural beauty and unpolluted environment we all treasure.
The District Plan is the primary document that deals with subdivision, land use and development within the district. It provides for residential zones, business zones, rural zones, and more, and each of these zones have a set of rules applying to construction, landscaping, etc, to protect that area from inappropriate subdivision and development.
The District Plan is a complex document. It is recommended that you contact the Council office for advice if you are considering building, subdividing or changing the use of your land in Kaikoura.
Give us a call (03) 319-5026.
