Welcome to the Kaikoura District Council and the local government website for the Kaikoura District of New Zealand. Kaikoura is a Green Globe Certified Community: we are committed to sustaining our environment by managing and improving our impact and were one of the first Councils to adopt a Zero Waste Policy. Our website offers both tourist information for those who visit Kaikoura and community information for local people.

REFUNDS FOR RATES OVERPAID OR PAID IN ERROR

The Council will refund overpaid rates, where credit exists after allowing for the current instalment, and an application is made either verbally or in writing by the ratepayer.

The Council will also refund rates that have been paid in error, for example where there has been a change of ownership and automatic payments by the previous owner have not been cancelled.

An application for refund needs to identify the property, specify the amount to be refunded, and provide instructions as to whether it is to be paid by cheque (please confirm the postal address), or provide your bank account number if it is to be paid by bank transfer.

Please contact the Rates Department if you have any queries, by phone on 319-5026.

Rating Information Database

Council has a Rating Information Database (RID) available to view at the office reception.  This RID contains rating information on all rateable properties within the district, including land and capital values, legal description, and rates information.

Withholding Information from the Rating Information Database

The Local Government (Rating) Act 2002 allows ratepayers to withhold their name and/or postal address from the database.  Should you wish to withhold your details please contact us.
