What does the Stormwater Rate pay for?

This rate covers the costs of stormwater collection and disposal, loan servicing, and upgrading and maintenance of the Kaikoura stormwater system.

Who pays the Stormwater Rate?

All properties within the Kaikoura urban area pay the stormwater rate, regardless of whether or not the individual property is physically connected to the stormwater system.  This is because Council takes the view that the entire urban area benefits from flooding protection, in that it enables the town to continue to function during periods of heavy rain.  (Click here >>>) for a definition of the urban area.
