ORANGE STRONG WIND WARNING

Until 1pm Tuesday 19 July

Although our weather is currently sunny and still, the Metservice still has Kaikōura on an Orange Strong Wind warning until 1pm tomorrow.
South Canterbury is currently experiencing strong winds, and it is still possible that strong winds could hit us overnight. It's worth taking a few simple precautions just in case those winds come our way.

WHAT YOU CAN DO
  • Check around the house and make sure that your roof and guttering is secure. Bring inside or tie down anything that can be broken or picked up by strong winds.
  • Remove any debris or loose items from around your property. Branches can become missiles in high winds.
  • Bring pets indoors. They can get unsettled by storms and it is more comforting and safer for them to be with you.
  • avoid driving if you can, or drive cautiously to difficult road conditions. Remember, to never drive through floodwater.
  • Prepare for possible power outages.
  • If there is an immediate risk to life or property contact the emergency services on 111.
