We have an exciting opportunity for a Policy Planner to join our small friendly team. At the Kaikōura District Council you can expect to be involved in a large variety of projects with opportunities to be involved in these at both a regional and national level. We are seeking a self-motivated person with a good working knowledge of the Resource Management Act plus a tertiary qualification in a planning or related discipline. You will also have excellent communication and organisation skills.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Developing and reviewing policies and plans to support Council initiatives and statutory requirements
• Writing reports to Council of new or reviewed policies or projects
• Preparing submissions on external policy affecting the organisation
• Undertaking special projects
• Formally receiving and processing plan changes to the Kaikōura District Plan
• Assisting in the review of the Kaikōura District Plan
• Assisting the Planning Officer with complex consents from acceptance to decision
• Preparing and delivering evidence to hearing panels to a high standard.
