​WEATHER EVENT UPDATE AND STATE OF EMERGENCY

At 9.54am a state of emergency was declared.

Takahanga Marae are avaiable for welfare for any people that need to be evacuated.

The Kowhai river breached its banks at 10.26 am.

People will need to self evacuate to higher ground and again can go to Takahanga Marae if needed.

Inland road is closed as cribb creek bridge has washed away .

SH1 South is closed and we are looking to evacuate the west end and properties along part of beach road Rorissons road.

We don’t know the impact of the breach or what is happening at this time with power and water.
