Weather and Flooding Update Tuesday 7th July 6.40pm
Heavy rain is expected to continue this evening and significant flooding impacts remain across the district. While some areas have seen water levels reduce, floodwaters remain present in a number of locations and conditions can change rapidly.
Residents are urged to:
• Stay away from floodwaters, rivers, streams and damaged roads.
• Obey all road closures and instructions from emergency services.
• Not return to any property that has been evacuated until advised it is safe to do so.
• Remain alert and monitor official updates throughout the evening.
Evacuation Advisory
Emergency services are currently door knocking residents in the Hawthorn Road and Gillings Lane areas due to rising water levels and ongoing flood risk.
Residents in these areas should be prepared to leave if requested by emergency services and follow all instructions from responders on the ground.
If you are asked to evacuate, please leave promptly and do not return until authorities advise it is safe to do so.
Anyone requiring welfare support or emergency accommodation should go to the Kaikōura Memorial Hall, which is operating as the community welfare centre.
Roads and Transport
A number of roads remain closed due to flooding, erosion and safety concerns. Please do not drive around road closure signs or barriers.
KiwiRail services have been cancelled and assessments of transport infrastructure are ongoing.
Drinking Water
Please conserve drinking water as a number of schemes are under stress.
Health Information
Residents requiring prescription medications should access pharmacy services through Kaikōura Hospital tomorrow during working hours of the medical centre. Please do not go to West End Pharmacy.

Stock owners experiencing animal welfare issues due to access restrictions or flooding can contact our Welfare Staff for advice by calling the KDC reception on (03) 319 5026.
