Consultation – Proposed Making of Kaikōura District Signs Bylaw 2023
Kaikōura District Council (KDC) currently regulates the display of all types of signs, including advertising signs, through its Kaikōura District (Signs) Bylaw 2011.
As required by law a periodic review of this bylaw has been recently undertaken, which has concluded with a recommendation that a new Signs Bylaw – the Kaikōura District Signs Bylaw 2023 – should be introduced. Public consultation is however required to be undertaken regarding this.
Whilst the proposed new bylaw has a simpler structure and is in some respects less restrictive than the current (2011) bylaw, a key difference to what has occurred in the past is that it is intended that the proposed new bylaw will be effectively enforced with any signs that don’t meet the new rules (including some existing signs) having to be removed.
IT IS IMPORTANT THAT BUSINESSES AND OTHERS DISPLAYING SIGNS MAKE THEMSELVES AWARE OF HOW THE PROPOSED NEW BYLAW WILL AFFECT THEM
A copy of the proposed new bylaw, a more detailed Statement of Proposal and associated information is available from Council on request or from www.kaikoura.govt.nz/council/public-notices
Submissions in respect of the proposed making of the Kaikōura District Signs Bylaw 2023 can be made in writing, and should be addressed to:
