America’s Cup Visit
The world’s oldest international sporting trophy the America’s Cup (or ‘Auld Mug’) will be brought to Kaikōura later this year by members of Team New Zealand.
Details for the mid-October visit are currently being worked through but the plan is to keep it simple and give locals as much time as possible with both the cup and the team.
The visit is being organised by the Council’s Events Coordinator, Sheena Hamilton as part of the cup’s tour around some of New Zealand’s provincial centres. “Kaikōura has seen a lot of events since the earthquake but this one is certainly a bit special. To have such an iconic team and trophy visit us is really positive and something that the members of our community who are sports or sailing fans will remember for a very long time” she said.
Details will be released through Council closer to the time.
