Boil Water Notices lifted
Boil water notices lifted for Oaro, Peketa, Fernleigh and Kincaid water supply schemes
Tests across the Oaro, Peketa, Fernleigh and Kincaid water supply schemes now show the water to be safe. The boil water notices for these schemes have been lifted.
Acting Kaikōura District Council Asset Manager, Terry Howes, says, “On behalf of the Council I’d like to say thank you to all affected residents for their patience while the notices were in place. Living with boil water notices isn’t easy and we’re so pleased to be able to get these four lifted.”
“The notices were put in place after the earthquake because testing showed water quality issues including high turbidity. We’ve worked closely with organisations including the Ministry of Health and Community and Public Health to restore our water quality. Turbidity levels have now decreased, systems and processes have been improved and it is safe to lift the boil water notices.”
“Although this is really good news, we are asking residents to bear in mind that some of the water supplies remain fragile and work to strengthen them will continue for some time. Weather events or work to put in long-term solutions may mean boil water notices have to be put back in place in the future” he said.
Boil water notices remain in place for the Kaikōura Suburban and East Coast water supplies. These will be lifted once it is safe to do so. As always, the most up to date information about boil water notices can be found here
