Council has just announced the latest round from the Creative Communities Scheme Fund. The fund is provided by Creative New Zealand to encourage, promote and support the arts in Aotearoa, New Zealand. The five successful applicants are going to create murals, produce and publish a limited edition arts book, develop an exhibition and produce a Talent Quest!

Beach Road Art Trail
South Bay artist Janet Nikora will design and paint a mural on a utility box down Beach Road. This mural will fit in with the existing murals around town and the Chorus artwork nearby, creating another piece of public art that brings our streets to life.

Visitors Book
Te Awhina will bring together the work of four local artists in the production and publication of a limited-edition book. The artists are recent ‘locals’ who have collaborated together post Kaikoura earthquake 2016 hence the title "Visitors Book." The intention is to follow up this publication by establishing access to or promoting a local publishing house for further Kaikōura publications, providing workshops for artists looking to publish, and creating an exhibition to celebrate collaboration.

Two Kaikōura artists will put on an exhibition of photographic and sculptural works. This will be a mixed discipline show at the Mayfair Theatre

Talent Quest
Kaikōura has got talent! This is a show to celebrate the talent in our community, to be held at the Mayfair Theatre. Dust of your tap dancing shoes folks and polish the old tuba - watch this space...

Playcentre Mural
A mural will be created on the Kaikōura PlayCentre on the Esplanade. The mural will reflect local flora and fauna, and the cultural history of Kaikōura while acknowledging tikanga Maori. This would be visible to anyone driving or walking along the Esplanade. We will consult with Te Runanga o Kaikōura and develop a landscaping/planting plan for the grassed area which will include two small whare and a cooking area/fire pit to acknowledge the historic hangi pits we have on site.
