Easter Sunday Trading
Proposed Easter Sunday Shop Trading Policy now available for feedback
Following a law change last year local communities are now able to decide if shops in their district can open for trade on Easter Sunday.
Kaikōura District Council supports individual shop owners having the ability to decide if they open for trade on Easter Sunday. The law change made last year allows employees to choose if they work on Easter Sunday regardless of if a local policy is adopted. To give shop owners the choice Council has drafted a Local Easter Sunday Shop Trading Policy.
Before making a final decision Council wants to hear your views. Submissions are requested from all organisations and interested persons on the draft policy.
A statement of proposal, draft policy and information on how to submit is available here. This information can also be viewed at the Council offices, 96 West End during open hours (8:00am – 4:00pm Monday – Friday).
