Kaikoura District Community Recovery Expo
When: Saturday 1 April 2017
Where: Kaikoura Memorial Hall, 32 Esplanade, Kaikoura
Time: 12.00pm (Midday)
Presentations will be available online
A community expo will provide an opportunity for people to hear about plans for the district’s recovery, Kaikoura Mayor Winston Gray says.
“The recovery team has been working hard alongside other agencies, groups and organisations to prioritise many of the great ideas that have come from the community. Now they’ve been captured in a draft plan, we are excited to show people what the future for our district could look like.”
Recovery Manager Danny Smith says a public expo on Saturday 1 April will give people a chance to hear what the agencies are doing, and what they can do themselves.
“Recovery is very much a whole community thing; so I’d invite people to come along to the Memorial Hall between 12 Midday and 5.30pm to listen to the speakers and see how plans are developing.
“We’re keen to hear what people think and you’ll also have the chance to mingle with others who have been through similar experiences – sharing knowledge and solutions as well as providing essential support for our community.”
Mr Smith says because the recovery is about the whole district, not just the Kaikoura township, presentations will be filmed and made available online.
“We have eight speakers rotating throughout the afternoon across a range of topics, from personal wellbeing to fixing our roads, rural recovery and natural hazards. People can also come along to learn how to make their home healthy and efficient, and to get advice on dealing with their insurer.”
Mr Gray says the expo will show people the extent of agencies involved in the recovery.
“Our district’s recovery is a long term thing, and the issues we face are complex. We have received a lot of ideas from our community and now well underway with preparing a draft plan that sets out what we need to do. The plan will be presented to Council in April.
