Official opening of the Mayfair Arts and Culture Centre Te Whare Toi ō Kaikōura
The official opening of The Mayfair Arts and Culture Centre Te Whare Toi ō Kaikōura is taking place on Thursday 19th November, The Hon. Lianne Dalziel, Mayor of Christchurch will open the centre and on Friday 20th and Saturday 21st there will be free guided tours which can be booked through firstname.lastname@example.org.
The first film showing will be on the evening of Saturday the 21st November (details to be released shortly) and the solo exhibition, “Energy of Change” by Kaikōura based artist Susie Baker will open to the public on Monday 23rd October and run until 5th February. The official opening for “Energy of Change” is Thursday 26th November at 5pm.
The new centre is a community organisation run by a board of volunteers. The board have developed and overseen the project for the last four years and also worked around the clock to acquire all the necessary funding to bring the project to life. Much of the funding has come from Lottery funds and other grant funders with no ratepayer money being used on the reconstruction project. The Kaikōura Community OpShop has raised an incredible $300,000 for the project and in recognition they will be the official sponsors of the main auditorium.
