Rates pay for the maintenance and development of the District’s infrastructure and community facilities, the cost of providing services like the library and Civil Defence and the general running of Council. Council sets its rates annually around the end of June through the Annual Plan or Long Term Plan.

Dog registration - WIN A PRIZE!

We want to see your dogs showing off their green tags from every corner of the district. Big or small, farm or pet, send us your pictures and you and your dog will automatically be entered in the draw for the voucher.

Dog Registration Form

By the 31 July 2018 all dogs over the age of 3 months must be registered with us for the 2018/19 Dog Registration Year (runs from 1 July 2018 - 30 June 2019). The form must be completed once for each dog you wish to register.

Kaikōura District Council operates 8 public water supply schemes supplying water/kātao to over 3,000 properties.

Harbour Facilities

Situated on the southern side of the Kaikōura Peninsula, the Marina has a seawall, slipway, fuel facility, public toilet, boat wash down area and parking for buses, cars, trailers and boats.

Rates help 2018/19

Those with low incomes may qualify for money off their rates bill through government rates rebates. For rates rebates, the paperwork is done by Council then Council deducts the amount of your rebate from your rates bill. if you've already paid your rates we'll give you a refund.
