Rivers are in high flow due to the rain, with more rain forecast. At this stage, no major overtopping issues are expected from the Kowhai River or the Mt Fyffe creeks. This position will be monitored and updated if there are changes.
There also remains a possibility for surface flooding generated from runoff on the Kaikoura Fan. The drainage system might not behave exactly as it did prior to the quakes.
Hapuku, Goose Bay and Linton dams will fill if this forecast eventuates in their catchments. This does not mean that these dams will fail, but it does increase the likelihood. It is recommended that people continue to take extreme care in these rivers and environs
