After July's severe flooding event damaged parts of Inland Road and left local families facing hours of extra travel each day just to get their children to school, a practical solution has arrived.
Thanks to the generosity of Blenheim Toyota, a 4WD 10-seat Toyota Hiace has been provided to Kaikōura District Council to help transport local schoolchildren across the affected area.
From today parents will share driving duties, giving families back more than two hours each day while reducing fuel costs and easing the pressure of an already challenging recovery.
Recovery Manager Jo York says support like this makes a real difference for people continuing to live with the impacts of the storm. While recovery is about repairing roads and infrastructure, it's also about helping people get through their day-to-day lives.
This vehicle will give parents more time to focus on their farms, repair storm damage and spend valuable time with their families. A huge thank you to Blenheim Toyota for stepping up with such a practical and thoughtful contribution, and to the local parents who have organised a shared solution for their community. 👏
