Mayor Craig Mackle and Local Election Results
There was much excitement in the community at the news Craig Mackle has yet again, secured the position of Kaikōura Mayor for a third term at the helm.
Craig said "I am honoured to be your elected Mayor for a third term and I'm very happy with the preliminary results. The community had a significant number of candidates to choose from, and we had one of the highest voter turn outs in the country. It's great to have the continuity of the 'old guards' with their institutional knowledge to hand down, combined with a fresh view from the three newly elected members. This is a Council that will bring a breath of fresh air anchored with the steadfastness of before. We have a good representation across the board for the community".
Craig is upbeat and energetically anticipating days to come: "I'm really looking forward to the next three years, there's no down time, we're straight into it! I've had lots of comments that the District is looking great. The first building at Wakatu Quay should be finished by the end of the month. We have budgeted for the building to be untenanted for a certain amount of time because we want to get the right tenant in. We are working on opportunities to activate the rest of the site.
There will also be changes ahead with Local Waters Done Well which is the biggest thing that the Council and this community have seen in decades.
It's well worth doing your homework if you haven't already, by reading up on this on the KDC website https://www.kaikoura.govt.nz/.../local-waters-done-well
I am really looking forward to the next three years. We’ll be working hard to make sure our fingers remain on the pulse and that no balls are dropped as your elected members”.
