NZTA - SH1 Night Closures for North Canterbury - November 2025:
We would like to inform you about planned paving work on SH1 between Kaikoura and Conway River.
Details of Work:
• Date: Monday 3rd November to Saturday 8th November
• Time: 9pm to 5am, midnight opening
• Work: Resurfacing
Road users are encouraged to plan ahead for the closures due to be in effect from the 3rd.
Monday 3rd November at 9pm work will start at the Kaikoura Tunnels this site will be Stop/Go with up to 10 minute delays and SH1 will remain open.
Tuesday 4th November to Saturday 8th November State Highway 1 will be closed from 9pm to 5am, with midnight openings.
A Detour will be in place via the Inland Kaikoura Road, however Heavy, HPMV and Over Dimensional vehicles are to use SH7, SH65 and SH63, detour map is attached.
Our holding point for northbound and southbound vehicles will be Conway River Bridge and Oaro, held at these locations for queuing for the midnight re-opening.
Emergency services will have access through the site.
