CURRENT WEATHER EVENTS STATUS UPDATE: 16:00 Tuesday 21st October
Power outages have affected approximately 800 homes and businesses across the district.
MainPower is working to restore power asap. This is fragile situation, and you may lose power more than once. Ensure devices are charging when possible.
Fire crews are currently fighting multiple fires in the KK flats area to SH1.
If you are asked to evacuate, please take this very seriously.
There are also accidents and road closures in the district caused by the high winds. The closures are north of the KK town centre.
Keep your families and yourselves safe by not driving unnecessarily. Keep windows shut if around smokey areas.
Current roading status:
• Inland Road closed until tomorrow
• SH1 closed north of Kaikoura due to fire and downed trees at Clarence and Waipapa Bay.
• Beach Road currently closed clearing earlier accident and fire risk.
Takahanga Marae is opening the Marae to offer accommodation and shelter to those who may need this. Please go straight to the Marae for this.
