COMMUNITY UPDATE WEDS 22 OCTOBER 10.27AM:

WELFARE:

No injuries or fatalities have been reported as admitted to Kaikōura Health.

Cordons remain in place. People are asked not to return to their properties until advised.

A further update will be provided at midday today.

Takahanga Marae is still available for evacuated persons and has capacity.

For any emergency, fire or hot spot concerns ring 111.

FIRE:

Multiple fire crews are still operating in area to contain fires.

Treat any powerlines down or around you as still live and report to 111.

ROADING & RAIL

SH1 has opened north under traffic management and is open south. People must still need to be vigilant for hazards on the roads.

Inland Road is still closed until further notice.

Roads that are closed between Old Beach Road and SH1 include Factory, Skevingtons, Hapuku and Wilderness Roads.

Trees are down on Clarence Valley and Waipapa Roads.

Railroad closed kiwi rail attending to the lines.

WATER:

All supplies have been returned to service apart from Clarence and parts of Fernleigh. People should conserve water use.

POWER

MainPower are assessing damage and are prioritising the main power lines.

People need to prepare for the fact that power may be off for several days.

SCHOOLS:

All schools are open today with the exception of Hapuku school being in the cordoned area.

WEATHER PREDICTIONS:

Winds are predicted to build this afternoon from midafternoon into the evening reaching speeds of up to 75 km Northwest

A break in the winds today offers some reprieve to the fire and emergency crews to increase containment lines before further predicted winds tomorrow.

Wind changes w after midnight and through to midday tomorrow. It will shift direction to the northeast and is predicted to reach speeds of 100k plus.
