Kaikōura remains in the Recovery phase following the recent flooding event with the transition period extended until12pm 5th October 2026, unless terminated or further extended earlier. Everyone is being urged to stay alert for signs of landslides.

COMMUNITY UPDATE THURSDAY 23RD OCTOBER 12.05pm

Winds are building but it is a fast-moving system predicted to reduce this afternoon.

Fire crews are on site monitoring hot spots to control and manage fires. Active fires currently include the area of Harnett’s Road, Skevington’s Road, Factory Road, Hapuku Beach, Clarence and Hanmer Springs.

Be very wary of flying debris and stay inside with doors and windows locked where possible.

Side roads from Old Beach Road to SH1 and Old Beach Road are closed due to fire and debris risk.

All unnecessary travel should be avoided.
