Thank you to everyone who participated.
Resident Satisfaction Remains High in Kaikōura.
Residents continue to rate Kaikōura District Council highly, according to the 2025–2026 Resident Satisfaction and Wellbeing Survey.
The independently run survey received 373 responses—the highest participation since 2013—and shows overall satisfaction with Council at 68%, well above the national benchmark of 50%. While slightly down on last year’s result, satisfaction remains strong across most services and facilities.
More than three‑quarters of the areas measured recorded moderate to high satisfaction, and no services fell below 50%. Thirteen of the fifteen benchmarked areas performed better than national averages. Library services again received the highest rating, while satisfaction with the Mayor, councillors and staff increased compared with last year. Overall satisfaction with Council services also reached a new high.
The survey provides insight into wider community wellbeing. Business confidence remains high across the district, and more than half of respondents believe Council is helping drive progress and punching above its weight. Perceptions of quality of life and community resilience were slightly lower than last year, reflecting broader pressures being felt locally and nationally.
Some areas were identified for improvement, particularly waste services, roading—especially in rural areas.
Feedback from the survey will help inform future planning and ongoing service improvements.
