​Weather conditions have eased across much of the district and floodwaters are continuing to recede.

Floodwaters can be contaminated with bugs that cause disease from ground surface septic tanks and sewerage systems which could make you and your whānau unwell.

Weather conditions have eased somewhat across the district, with flood waters receding although further rainfall is still forecast. Kowhai protection works have been put in place

Drinking contaminated water has the potential to cause illness, including vomiting and diarrhoea.

A State of Emergency remains in place for Kaikōura. Emergency services continue to respond to flooding across the district.

At 9.54am a state of emergency was declared.

Water Outage for Kincaid and Fernleigh Users

The water is currently off due to a power outage

Weather Event July 6 2026

The Kaikōura District is currently under a RED Rain Warning and it’s expected to last for 36 to 48 hours bringing 250 up to 600mm of rain, primarily to the Inland Range.

Local Government Reforms Update

Council was asked to consider whether to participate in the Government’s Head Start pathway for local government reform and to progress discussions with neighbouring councils.

​Building Consents Process Change. From SIMPLI to "DO IT ONLINE"

Effective 1 July 2026, Kaikōura District Council will transition from the existing Simpli Portal to the Datascape Building Consent Portal.
